THE ARTIST

Bryan Andrés is the owner of URSA.CLAY and is a Colombian ceramic artist/educator residing in the Inland Empire region who has worked with clay since 2019. His mission, with the assistance of a little mud, is to ignite the curiosity in others to explore their roots, their bloodline, and empower them to honor those with whom they connect with.
Along his spiritual journey, he has dedicated his life to the preservation of the Maya native spirituality, working directly with the indigenous peoples of Guatemala. Specifically receiving formation as Ajq'ij with the Maya K'iche' of Totonicapan and currently with Ajquijá B'elejeb Q'anil of the Kakchiquel lineage in Lake Atitlan, Sololá, Guatemala.
He believes that clay offers an opportunity to reconnect with ourselves as well as with those that have passed by stimulating the mind. The earth it comes from invites us to explore our memories and can encourage reflection and healing when we least expect it.
Claywork honors the land, the elements, and Creation. It reminds us to be fluid and at times mold to the world around us, while remaining light, as the breeze lifts up and moves when it needs. Other times, it reminds us that we must rest, hold still and build strength, but not remain so still for we can break and crack under pressure.
